Teaching philosophy

Our teaching philosophy is rooted in the science of learning- delivered in a safe, accepting, and nurturing environment.

Each lesson will include:

  • a review of the previous assignment
  • new material encompassing the ‘core ingredients’ of music (melody, harmony and rhythm)
  • exercises in gross (large) muscle development (hand drumming, clapping, tapping, moving, Dalcroze eurhythmics)
  • exercises in fine (small) muscle development (scales, hanon, czerny, montuno patterns, dozen a day)
  • sight reading
  • specific instruction in deliberate practice (click for more details)
  • immediate feedback
  • review of all new material
